The Adolf Grimme Award is the most important German TV award. It is also called the "German TV Oscar". It is named after the first general director of Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk, Adolf Grimme.

The awards ceremony takes place once a year at Theater Marl and is hosted by the Adolf-Grimme-Institut in Marl. Since 1964 it awards productions "that use the specific possibilities of the medium television in an extraordinary manner and at the same time can serve as examples regarding content and method".[1]
