Bole (Traditional Chinese: 博樂; Simplified Chinese: 博乐; pinyin: Bólè) or Bortala (Mongolian: ᠪᠣᠷᠲᠠᠯᠠ, Бортал; Uyghur: بۆرتالا‎, Börtala, Bɵrtala) is a county-level city in Xinjiang. The area is 7517 km² and the total population is 403,700 (2003). Bortala is Mongolian and means "brown grasslands". Bortala is the seat of Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, which borders to Kazakhstan. Bortala has a railway and highway connections to Urumqi.
