Distelfink
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A distelfink (German for "goldfinch") is a stylized goldfinch often used in Pennsylvania Dutch folk art.[1] They represent happiness and good fortune and the Pennsylvania German nation, and they are a common theme in hex signs and in fraktur. The modern form often has a stylized crest on the bird's head of three lines each ending in a dot (see example below).
[edit] Popular culture
The American cartoonist Keno Don Rosa used a triple distelfink sign as the origin for Gladstone Gander's remarkable luck (story: "The Sign of the Triple Distelfink", ").
