Ellis Short (born October 6, 1960, in Independence, Missouri)[1] is a Dallas based American businessman, multi-billionaire, and president of Lone Star Funds[2] based in Texas.

Born in Independence, Missouri, Short is of Irish descent, and grew up in Missouri.
[edit] Lone Star Funds
Short began his career at General Electric, before teaming up with business partner John Grayken at Lone Star Funds, a private equity firm based in Dallas, Texas. Short was the senior executive who ran the Asian operations.
In 2003, Short masterminded the takeover of the South Korean Korea Exchange Bank. This subsequently resulted in him being subject of an arrest warrant, which was later dropped. In 2008 Short ran the project to take over IKB Deutsche Industriebank.[3] He subsequently retired from Lone Star, but remains President.

In 2003, Short bought Skibo Castle for £23 million, which operates as a members-only hotel and country club in Scotland. The castle is famous for hosting Madonna's wedding to Guy Ritchie in 2000. In 2007, Mrs Short allegedly threatened to shoot a retired couple’s dogs because they were walking across the Skibo Castle Estate;[4] in Scottish law, there’s no law of trespass.
[edit] Sunderland A.F.C.
In September, 2008, Short bought a 30% stake in the English Premier League football team Sunderland A.F.C., becoming the majority shareholder at that club with the Irish Drumaville Consortium.[5]
On 22 December 2008 The Daily Telegraph reported Ellis Short was poised to become the new owner of Sunderland ready to complete a deal with the 8 man Drumaville Consortium for their remaining shares in the club.
Ellis buying the club makes Sunderland the 4th club in the English Premier League to have American owners along side Aston Villa, Manchester United and Liverpool. Some reports are stating that Ellis Short will give Sunderland 200 million pounds for the 2009/2010 season. It was revealed on 21 February 2009 that his controlling interest in Sunderland Football Club played a role in the departure of Roy Keane from the club.[6] On the 27th May 2009 Ellis assumed 100% control of the club. Short is married to Eve, the couple have a son also named Ellis. He is an intensely private person who rarely speaks to media or takes interviews.
