José Maria Rodrigues Alves, best known as Zé Maria (born in Botucatu, May 18, 1949) is a former Brazilian footballer.
In his career (1966–1983) he played for Ferroviário Botucatu, Portuguesa, Corinthians and Internacional de Limeira as a defender, in the position of right-back. He won four São Paulo State Championship (1977, 1979, 1982, 1983). For the Brazilian team he played in 48 games from 1968 to 1978. He was a World Champion in 1970 (as a reserve who didn’t play), and he participated in the 1974 FIFA World Cup - and in the famous friendly match Shamrock Rovers XI vs Brazil, won 4–3 by Brazil. He missed out on the 1978 FIFA World Cup at the last minute due to injury.
