Disambiguation pages with links is a project that patrols the incoming links to disambiguation pages. These non-article pages exist to clarify and ease confusion in cases where two or more similarly named articles exist—for example, if two or more famous people have the same name. Ideally, article namespace pages should not link to disambiguation pages, with rare exceptions in which the ambiguity of a term is being discussed; instead, links should go directly to the appropriate article. Links from non-article namespaces are allowed, but still may need to be disambiguated.
This page lists the disambiguation pages that do have incoming links, most of which need to be fixed.

[edit] How to help
- First, please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Disambiguation, which describes guidelines about how and when to disambiguate. Please also review the Manual of Style for disambiguation pages.
- Next, choose a disambiguation page to fix from the list below. Visit the disambiguation page you've selected, and familiarize yourself with the possible targets for links.
- Click on the What links here link in the "toolbox" on the left side of the screen.
- For each page listed, visit the page. Change the link that goes to the disambiguation page to a link to the most appropriate article listed on the disambiguation page. The most important links to fix are those from articles in the Article and Template namespaces. User pages and "Wikipedia:" administrative pages do not necessarily need to be fixed. Please avoid editing comments on "Talk:" pages; doing so is usually inadvisable per the talk page guidelines. It's okay for redirects to point to a disambiguation page, but articles pointing to these redirects need to be fixed.
- To help people find this project, consider using an edit summary like the following:
Repairing links to disambiguation pages - [[Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links|You can help!]] - Please remember: it is more important to disambiguate correctly than to disambiguate quickly. Make sure you make the best choice; if you're not sure, leave a note on the talk page and let someone who has a better understanding of the subject fix it.
- Occasionally, links can simply be removed. Usually, a term should not be linked more than once in a single article or section. When the link refers to a meaning of the term for which there is no relevant article, but you feel that such an article would be notable and beneficial to the encyclopedia, consider creating a red link to a possible title. If the meaning is unlikely to merit enyclopedic coverage, you may wish to remove it or replace it with a link to Wiktionary, using the shortcut [[wikt:]].
- If you fix all the main namespace links to that disambiguation page, please move it to the "Done" section.
- Some pages gather links quickly and need to be monitored on an ongoing basis. Alternatively, you may have special knowledge or a special affection for the topic of a particular disambiguation page. For these reasons or any other, consider adopting a disambiguation page.
- If all or most of the links refer to one meaning of the article name, it may make more sense to redirect the disambiguation page to that article and perhaps set up a disambiguation block.
- Once you become comfortable with the disambiguation process, you may wish to read this guide to help you disambiguate more efficiently.
- {{Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links/Userbox}} can be placed on your user page to show that you fix ambiguous links. You may also use {{Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links/Usertop}}, which will display the Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation logo in the title bar of your userpage. Using either of these adds you to Category:Wikipedians who help fix disambiguation pages with links.
[edit] Tools and reports
Several automated tools can be used to make disambiguation easier:
- AutoWikiBrowser is capable of mass disambiguation in semi-automatic mode. See the AWB user manual for details.
- Wikipedia Cleaner is a Java-based tool designed to aid in various maintenance tasks, including fixing ambiguous links.
- Solve disambiguation.py is a python bot script designed to help fix ambiguous links.
- Navigation popups can be used to fix ambiguous links with a single click if you have added the option "popupFixDabs=true;" to your monobook.js (or a similar file for other skins).
There are also several Toolserver reports generated by User:JaGa:
- Disambiguation pages with links - List of all disambiguation pages that are linked by articles. Updated daily.
- Disambiguation link count - Get the number of mainspace links to your favorite disambiguation page. Updated in real time.
- Articles with the most disambiguation links - List of all articles that link to multiple disambiguation pages. Updated daily.
- Disambiguation pages linked by an article - Look up all disambiguation pages linked from a single article. Updated in real time.
- Templates with disambiguation links - List of all templates that link to disambiguation pages - a quick way to identify and fix large numbers of disambiguation links with a single edit. Updated daily.
Other statistics and lists:
- The Daily Disambig, link statistics maintained by User:R'n'B, including a daily list of new disambiguation pages
- Maintenance, a list of problem pages arranged by topic, with historical statistics
- Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Ambiguous link, links which have been explicitly marked as "disambiguation needed"
- Special:Disambiguations, a special page listing links to dabs
[edit] DAB Challenge leaderboard
The Monthly DAB Challenge is a friendly competition to see who can fix the most links from the monthly list. The leaderboard shows the top twenty contributors so far this month (with a minimum 10 article-to-disambig fixes), and is updated hourly. For more information, including the full leaderboard, see the project page.

[edit] Current disambiguation collaborations
Please feel free to add new suggestions for collaborations here.
- Category links: I've updated the list of categories with ambiguous links using the data that Russ puts up every once in a while. I think this is worth a cleanup run, since we haven't finished a categories run in about two years. There are about 1600 ambiguous links at the moment. If you fix the links on a category page, simply delete the entry from the list. A certain percentage of the links are intentional and can be safely ignored; please move them to the section at the bottom of the page so other editors will know to skip them. Since there are only a few links to check for any given category page (it's broad and shallow), and we haven't had many collaborations up lately, this seems to me like an ideal topic. Dekimasuよ! 04:29, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Process: 300 links. This page has been at or near the top of every update since the March 2008 dump without leaving the list once, and as I write this it's made its way to #1. I've been working on it some today, and it's kind of hard, but there are also many links that just intend the dictionary definition and can be safely delinked or changed to link to Wiktionary. Please pitch in! Dekimasuよ! 14:00, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

- Can we link to Wiktionary? I thought that was a no-no. Array is similar situation. J04n(talk page) 14:47, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

- It's all right to do it when it seems like the link would be helpful. When the link in question doesn't seem to apply to any encyclopedic topic, I almost always delink per WP:LINK#What generally should not be linked (I think the old link was Wikipedia:Only make links that are relevant to the context). But in the rare cases in which it's clear the original editor added the wikilink with purpose aforethought, I might switch it to Wiktionary. In that sense, I think it's an extension of the "intentional links to dab pages" concept; when the ambiguity is being discussed, link the (disambiguation) page, and when the definition is being discussed, link Wiktionary. The list below shows the disambiguation pages in the English Wikipedia's article namespace to which there are the most links. For the purposes of this report, a disambiguation page is considered to be any article using one of the many disambiguation templates. Multiple links from a single article are counted only once. Only links from the article namespace are counted.
The current list was generated from the toolserver report on July 1, 2009. Previous reports from the toolserver and database dumps are archived in the box to the right.

[edit] Progress
From the top 250 disambiguation pages as of July 1, 2009, out of a total of 38,655 links, approximately 2,995 have currently been fixed.
- PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING ANY EDITS: Kindly do not edit anything between the start of the line and the character string "|links]]". You may insert any additional information after this point. When an item is finished, please cut and paste it, without revision, to the end of the "Done" section. Thank you.
- The link counts reflect the number of links from main namespace articles as of the toolserver report date shown above. They are unlikely to be accurate at any later date; however, we keep the original count intact as a way of tracking our progress. Please do not change the link totals!
