This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 3 header (i.e. ==== {{la|Example}} ====) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

These changes have been undone by several other users to restore NPOV and stick to the facts but the anonymous user keeps modifying the page in what has definitely become an edit war. It's not clear to me that this is vandalism; it looks more like a content dispute. In any case, all of the disputed edits are made by a single IP address, and this article has only had about 15 edits in July, so certainly no need to put restrictions on the article. Temporary semi-protection. 77.20.72.238 keeps inserting non-NPOV phrasing; I changed it back three times now; the last two times with a change comment referring to Talk:Marwa_El-Sherbini#non-NPOV_in_Initial_media_reports_section where I laid out how he/she can insert the referred view: not reporting the view as a fact but reporting it as the view of a source/sources of his choice. But apparently 77.20.72.238 read neither the history page not the talk page. I hope temporary semi-protection will make this IP user take notice of the talk page and so engage constructively. Young Ace is the name of a new (first issue published in July 2009) manga anthology title from Kadokawa Shoten that is now home to some significant Manga, including MPD Psycho and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Page has been protected for a long time, supposedly due to the fact that it was an implausible typo for suicide. Actually, it is a *chan/ED meme about suicides for seemingly silly reasons. For example, a kid who committed suicide because his iPod got stolen would be called "an hero". This meme stems from a kid who actually did commit suicide for that reason, as when a group of /b/tards (users of any given /b/ (random) board, for those who don't know) were trolling the kid's MySpace, one of his friends accidentally called him "an hero" rather than "a hero".
