- Tag articles!
- Help to maintain the distinction between samurai history and modern military history. Samurai commanders and generals were not in the Imperial Japanese Military, and should not be categorized as such.
- Expand on articles and subjects listed above in the To-do Template.
- Conflicts of early Meiji are one set of topics which need help. Seikanron, Saga Rebellion, and Satsuma Rebellion are a lot shorter than they could be, and represent some superficial or stereotypical views; further detailed discussion will reveal a less biased view.

- Stephen Turnbull's books, mainly by Osprey Publishing.
- George Bailey Sansom's three-volume History of Japan
- The multi-volume Hanshi Daijiten (藩史大辞典) (Edited by Kimura Motoi, et al.), for those willing to wade through and translate from a massive Japanese encyclopedia for data on feudal domains.
