[edit] Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:38, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alvin Wood
Hello! I just noticed that the article Alvin Wood is up for deletion. As a historical figure in Kentucky history, I thought your project should be made aware of it.--Paul McDonald (talk) 18:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Articles flagged for cleanup
Currently, 2976 articles are assigned to this project, of which 398, or 13.4%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subscribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 11:22, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] The Cadiz Record nominated for speedy deletion
This article is about a year old and still has no content other than an existence statement and an external link. I tagged it for speedy deltion. - PennySpender1983 (talk) 02:29, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Kentucky
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:02, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Bluegrass Region merge into WP:KY?
WikiProject Bluegrass Region has been dormant for quite a while. Should we consider merging this project into WP:KY? Since the Lexington metro area is wholly inside Kentucky, it wouldn't pose any geographical issues. I think this merger might do something to bring more attention to the Lexington-related articles. Any thoughts? Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 03:23, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- There's a reason why I made Lexington in the American Civil War at WP:KY, not WP Bluegrass. The experiment is over; wrap it back in. I wonder if we could get a bot to make all the changes?--Gen. Bedford his Forest 03:32, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- There's only 219 articles in the Bluegrass Region project at this time. We may as well change the articles over manually. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 04:18, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- When you guys are ready to make these changes, let me know, I'd be happy to help. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 00:17, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- I've already moved some articles over. Feel free to help with the rest. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 17:49, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

- OK, all done now. Now, I guess we need to check into deleting all the Bluegrass project files. Ugh. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 17:28, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Courthouse Photos
Several unused courthouse photos are here. Help is needed adding them to their respective county pages by adding the following to the County Infobox template
|ex image = courthouse image filename.jpg
|ex image cap = xxx County Courthouse in xxxx, Kentucky
-Ichabod (talk) 20:26, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- For the record, we are missing five, all of which are in the Purchase area of western Kentucky.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 06:48, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- Carlisle currently doesn't have a courthouse, as it was destroyed by fire. I heard its sharing a courthouse right now in another county, with a clerk office still in the county seat of Bardwell, a town where a tornado could go thru and do $3million in improvements.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 03:25, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- For some reason Casey County's courthouse image was deleted, so Casey County needs a courthouse image. --Ichabod (talk) 02:51, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Kentucky articles needing geographic coordinates
575 articles in Category:Kentucky articles missing geocoordinate data do not have geographic coordinates. Coords are useful for making the article appear on Google Maps & many other mapping services; and they allow our users to click through to see the article subject location on a map. There's a short guide to on how to add geocodes to articles ... it really is very easy to do. I hope you'll take some time to ensure that Kentucky is as well represented as it can be on wikipedia by fixing up the listed articles. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:08, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Article Alerts
As this is one of the more active state projects, I figured I'd stop by. I was wondering if you had come across this nifty bot? If you're interested we have a working model at WP:OH and are also running the separate workflows on subpages so you can see how those work out. I hope you guys might find this message useful! §hep • ¡Talk to me! 00:19, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like a good idea to me. I'd like to give it a shot, anyway. Acdixon (talk • contribs • count) 02:53, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- I don't have much time to look at it, but if somebody can explain how this bot can be made to work with our current alerts system, that would be interesting to implement. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 04:29, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'll be happy to help as much as I can. To setup the alerts system
{{User:ArticleAlertbot/Subscription|display=(plain, columns, box, none)|archivetime=# (in days)|banner=WikiProject Kentucky}}would be added to the project's page. A page would be created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Article alerts. This page could then be transcluded wherever you wanted it. If you only wanted, say, Afds to appear, you could add to the subscription|workflows=AFDor others based on this page. To add them to your current alerts system you would add something like:
- I'll be happy to help as much as I can. To setup the alerts system
== Current alerts =={{Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Alerts/content}}{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Article alerts}}
-
- With the only new addition being the bolded text. This category lists all projects which currently use the service. I hope this was helpful and I didn't go in circles too much. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 21:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds to be worthwhile at least for a test. Go ahead and set it up if you want to. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 04:14, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- The page has been generated here. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 16:22, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Redevelopment of project template
Yesterday, I redeveloped the {{WikiProject Kentucky}} template using the excellent {{WPBannerMeta}} template. If anyone has any issues using the new version, please let me know and I will address them as soon as I can. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 17:07, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] For those who love doing project change patrol...
Here's the most up-to-date project watchlist in a long time. I'm still trying to get an automated bot to regularly generate it. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 05:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] The Lex in Lexington, Kentucky. Proposed article.
Hi there. I'd like to submit an article about The Lex in Lexington, Kentucky. It's the city's largest mixed-use apartment and retail development, a complicated project that has taken four years since it was announced in 2005. Here's the thing. I wrote a similar article about The Foundry at Eddy Street Commons -- part of a $215 million revitalization effort in South Bend. And it was immediately deleted. Can't understand that. I had references from two newspapers and links to all my references... Anyway, since I'm so new to Wikipedia, should I put the article for review here first? Also could use some help with our template. I don't have any idea how to use that. Thanks in advance. Klasalle (talk) 22:12, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- You're on the right track. I'd suggest creating a "sandbox" page in your user space – something like User:Klasalle/The Lex. (You can start such a page by clicking the redlink in the previous sentence.) It'll be safe from deletion there. Work on it there, remembering above all to cite reliable sources. When you're done, drop back in here and ask for some feedback. Acdixon (talk • contribs • count) 01:39, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] L&N Train Station naming
The various L&N Stations in Kentucky have different names with no similarity: Louisville and Nashville Railroad Station, Old L & N Station, Hopkinsville L & N Railroad Depot, Stanford L&N Railroad Depot, and Paducah Freight House (only L&N after 1957). Perhaps we need some uniform manner of naming them, especially before I create any more.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 04:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Coordinators' working group
Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. §hepTalk 00:23, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Article alerts
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

[edit] Millsprings Amusement Park
Hi everyone. I am currently gathering my family archives so that I can build a page about Millsprings Amusement Park. It was once located in Paducah, KY. I am the son of the founder and would like to assess whether or not this group would like to get behind me on this small project to protect it from speedy deletion, et all. The park was located near Kentucky Oaks Mall off I-24 and was open from 1996-2000. Any additional support you can lend to use as references would be appreciated. Rekutyn (talk) 23:24, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] J. Swagar Sherley
Just a heads up - I've tagged the article with your project. APK straight up now tell me 14:18, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Billy Gillispie
The Billy Gillispie article needs to be removed from the WikiProject Kentucky. He is no longer coach of the University of Kentucky, and no longer lives in the state. 74.131.19.158 (talk) 16:58, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! [edit] Stephen Bishop
In the article about Stephen Bishop, why is an external link (the Coax.net article by Henry Robert Burke) that is acknowledged to contain false information, allowed to remain as a reference? Stephen Bishop did not discover Mammoth Cave, he is not known to have ever discovered a mummy in the cave, and there is no known documentation to suggest that Stephen Bishop ever hid runaway slaves in Mammoth Cave. 72.49.181.187 (talk) 19:51, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Kentucky Union Regiments
After a few weeks of work, I have completed articles for each of Kentucky's Union regiments. These articles include information about formation, battles, commanders, casualties, and service. External links to rosters, histories, or living history organizations have been included when available. In a very few instances, notes about notable unit members have also been included (see 1st Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Infantry for an example).
I still need to go back and add total regimental strengths (per Thos. Speed) as well as de-wikifying the dates in the infoboxes (my mistake).
Now the hard part: Kentucky Confederate units. So many of these units are known only by a few sources and records for them are non-existant in some cases. I will do my best to work on these over the next few weeks.
If anyone has any questions or concerns about my chosen format for the articles, please let me know.
-Spacini (talk) 03:42, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't really have any feedback on the format; just wanted you to know your hard work hadn't gone unnoticed. Even if there are problems with the format, which I doubt, a badly-formatted article would still be better than no article. Look forward to seeing your Confederate unit articles pop up in the next few weeks. Acdixon (talk • contribs • count) 12:45, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] List of cities in Kentucky
I added detail to the List of cities in Kentucky, mostly patterned after List of cities and towns in Tennessee. The table still lacks date formed for many of the cities. Robomanx (talk) 12:29, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] State Parks pages
Saw the request, also saw Green_River_Lake_State_Park much in need of something so I got started. Help appreciated. VulpineLady (talk) 00:25, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Good observation. I stubbed in most of these articles from Kleber's The Kentucky Encyclopedia. Not sure where you can find more reliable sources from which to expand the park articles. This link might be a good start. Feel free to bring any questions here or to my talk page. Acdixon (talk • contribs • count) 12:42, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
